Stop Feeling Depressed

When you are feeling depressed, you may not feel like doing anything at all. It may feel as if there is no point to life. You may feel alone, sad, lost, or even bored. There are different levels when it comes to depression and it is important that you understand when to get help. A lot of the information you find online are normally only effective for people with mild or light cases of depression. If you have thoughts of suicide or anything that involves hurting you or someone else, you need to seek professional help. If on the other hand, if you feel depressed do to something that is just temporary, then the following tips may help you.

1. Write.

A great way to help yourself feel better when you are depressed is to write on paper or on your computer how you feel. By writing down your thoughts and emotions, you will often times be able to clearly see what is causing you to feel the way you feel. Not only that, putting your thoughts down on paper can help you release some of that depression. Feelings of depression can sometimes be caused by having way too many negative things floating around in your mind. Let it out by writing it down. You can throw or delete what you write after you feel better.

2. Change your focus.

One of the reasons why you have depressed feelings is because you keep focusing on depressing things. Sometimes it's not very clear as to what it is you are focusing on since it may feel like you're not focusing on any particular thing. In either case, one thing you can do that can help you feel better is to think about positive things. Ask yourself what you can be happy about if you really want to.

You can do other things to change your focus like watching a funny movie or a stand up. You can even listen to some upbeat music. You can read a book. Anything that will help you focus on something positive can help.

3. Talk it out.

If you don't like to write and prefer talking, find someone who you trust and talk to them about what is on your mind. Often times just by verbally saying what is causing you to feel depressed can make you feel better. Just make sure you pick someone who you not only trust but is also someone with a positive mindset.

4. Smile

Even if you don't feel like it, try forcing yourself to smile.

Knowing how to stop feeling depressed can take some experimentation. Sometimes, something simple can cause you to just brighten up. Other times, it may take a lot of effort to change how you feel.
