Motivating Employees

When it comes to motivating employees, it can be a tough challenge due to the fact that not everyone is motivated in the same way. Some people are motivated through external rewards while for others, you will have to give them some time of internal reward. Obviously, this isn't something you can just ignore since an office with a group of unproductive employees can cause your business to tank. There are lots of ways to motivate employees and this article will provide you with a couple of suggestions.

Improving employee motivation is about being able to figure out what makes your employees tick. What are their passions and desires? Why are they working for your company? What are their personal goals? How do you find the answers to these questions? One approach is to just ask them. Of course, this is a lot easier if you have a small business rather than a large one but if you can, give it a try. You can try giving them an employee motivation survey or even hire a company to facilitate an employee motivation program.

Many managers or owners will make the mistake of trying to motivate their employees the wrong way. If you are motivated by money, you can try giving someone a bonus to try to get them to be more productive but that won't work if it's someone who is motivated by something such being appreciated. Again, it comes down to the fact that we are all motivated differently. Sure, you can just hire self motivated people but it's hard to judge how someone will work based on interviews.

One great way to help get your unmotivated employees going is to give them a reason greater than just getting a paycheck. This can be done by creating an environment where people feel some sort of pride working for your company. Take a look at Ferrari. They have workers who sew leather seats all day but those same people love their work just because they know they took part in the creation or a magnificent machine. It's about being able to change the perspective of how your team sees their job.

There are a lot of books on how to motivate employees. You can research more ideas on the web as well. As long as you can give them a strong enough reason to be more productive besides just receiving a paycheck, they will become more productive. Motivating employees may not be the easiest thing in the world but if you do it right, it can cause your business to soar.
