When you are able to get what you want in life, you will be happier than if you aren't able to get what you want in life. Here are the basics of how to set goals using the SMART system. It's an easy way to remember the components of setting goals correctly.
Until you know what you want, it will be hard to get it. You will ideally want to define in detail what your goal is. The reason why you want to do this is so you can focus on your goal. It's hard to hit a target you can't see.
You need to be able to create a goal where someone would be able to look at your progress and tell whether or not you are getting closer to your goal or not. A goal of getting more fit is hard to measure but a goal of losing X amount of pounds and having a body fat of 12% is easy.
Your path to your goal needs to be flexible. If you start out trying to obtain your goal and you find out your strategy isn't working, you need to be able to change your strategy.
Make sure your goal is something that you truly believe you can achieve. If you set your goals way too high, where you don’t even believe you can achieve it, you will end up not even trying.
You need to set a deadline. This will create a sense of urgency and will help you to keep taking action.
As you can see, setting goals isn't all that hard. The hard part is to actually achieve it. This SMART system is a great way to remember how to set goals correctly but in order to achieve your goals, you must do a couple of extra things.
The first thing you need to do is to have a lot of reasons why you must achieve your goals. This will help you to keep going even when you feel like giving up. The next thing you want to do is to find someone who has already achieved the goal you want to help you. Why go through the trial and error when you can just find someone to show you the way. Life is too short to try to figure out everything on your own. Once you know what you want and know how to get it, it just comes down to taking action. This is the final step of setting goals. Nothing happens without action. What happens if you fail to achieve your goals? You find out what worked and what didn't work, adjust your strategy if needed, then take more action.
